My search for a blogging engine is coming to a close. Wordpress, as it turns out, is a big disappointment. The primary reason I had for using a blogging engine instead of my website, was that could make the blog look like the website. I didn't need themes or customization, I can do all that on my own if I have the ability to use my own CSS and/or HTML. This way I can update my website, using all the convenient features of a blogging engine (such as being able to send from my phone) and none of the clutter (profiles, ads, and basically any sign that a blogging engine generated the page).
In summary, Wordpress makes you pay for this. Yes, a full professional subscription is required for this and many other features. Among these is the privilege of not having Wordpress "occasionally hosting ads" on your blog. Wait, there's ads from Wordpress forced? Yup. Surprise surprise.
And so Wordpress rapidly plummets down my list. It is the most popular engine, as it is seen as the most powerful, superior to simpler, less feature-full engines such as Blogger (and certainly more professional than Tumblr). This may be true, but I'm not paying anything for a blog. Ever.
You will never believe what engine I settled with: Blogger. Yes, the "inferior" engine has promised every single feature for free... So, considering my budget, it is, in practical terms, more powerful than Wordpress! Yes, the semipopular engine apparently owned by Google (not sure if its always been that way, Google probably just bought it), has no ads and also underwent a UI overhaul along with other Google products. It's simpler than Wordpress but since I never used that much, I don't know what I'm missing. Blogger has let me turn off a lot of the engine's chrome (such as the Blogger bar at the top border of nearly every blog there) without needing CSS or modifying HTML. What a shock! I was elated to later discover, as Blogger allows inserting custom CSS without needing to break open the generated HTML, that I hid every aspect of the chrome when I combined the options with a few CSS rules. As of yet, no HTML required! I did not see that coming. Needless to say, I'm sticking with Blogger for the foreseeable future.
TL;DR: I have found a Blogging engine that I will stick with for now, possibly forever. The Wordpress blog "Salient Postulations" is now retired in favor of the Blogger blog "Anonymous Conceptualizations". See you there!
